One of the most exciting celebration in Sabah is the Harvest Festival. There will be many events held during the festival such as Sugandoi (a singing competition), traditional food cooks competition, Unduk Ngadau etc.. And of course the most exciting part above all is Unduk Ngadau competition. I get excited too, talking about it makes me even excited!! it is the most unique beauty pageant ever! The beauty pageant competition held specifically for the KadazanDusunMurut people in Sabah in the search for the next Huminodun. All beauties from every part in Sabah will compete in the search for the district representative to compete in state level. They will be 'paitung'-ed' (make up to enhance their beauty), wearing a traditional costume and of course their hair will be set up like a true Huminodun. From my understanding, Huminodun was a legend once upon a time. She was sacrificed in order to saved her people from starving. Her body was spread into the paddy field so that the paddy will grow again after the long drought. So this competition is held in order to keep her in memory. Therefore, to be a Huminodun you must be not only pretty, tall but also kind and of course know your own mother tongue language! I know its a shame that i myself not really that fluent to speak in Kadazan. Therefore i decided that i will and must take this language course next semester !
Anyway, back to my main point here..Unduk Ngadau.. This year the competition is getting even bigger, the prizes value is getting larger $$$. The prize winning is up to RM120 000 for the overall prizes. And i really love this year's crown. Loving the paddy motif that acts as a symbol of the harvest festival. Guess what, this crown worth RM30 000 sponsored by Diamoney for the Unduk Ngadau 2013 winner.. Can i take this home please..........hehehehe.

The search is still on , so i guess my picks for this year has not yet been decided. Gotta wait for another one week tho. Last but not least, Kotobian Tadau Kaamatan in advance to all people who celebrate it!!
